April 21

Good evening Birch families,

This week the Birch class learned about Earth Day and what we can do to help keep our planet clean. During small circle, the class listened along to the books Where Does All The Garbage Go?, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, My River and Where Does Rubbish Go? The class also found “trash” around the playground and helped collect and separate it for recycling.

During music with Ms. Kathleen, the Birch class sang along to “Humpty Dumpty” and “Baa Baa Black Sheep”, created music using shaker eggs and jingle bells, danced with scarves and listened along to different bug sounds.

Practical life skills continued to grow by transferring small stars with tongs, finding hidden pictures around the room, threading large wooden beads and observing items found in nature with a magnifying glass.

The children continued to enhance their large motor skills by going on nature walks, practicing the yoga poses for “Tree”, “Mountain” and “Flower”, running relay races outside and jumping with two feet off the wooden beams.

During P.E. with Ms. Kira, the Birch class practiced walking on tip-toes, worked on their balance by walking across a rope and jumping across lily pads.

Next week we will continue to discuss Earth Day and what we can do to help keep our planet clean!

Have a great weekend!

Ms. Nicole and Ms. Itzel
