Hello Aspen families!
This week we enjoyed talking all about spring and enjoying the warmer weather. Aspen children are growing so fast and their vocabulary is rapidly increasing, this gives way for amazing conversations and deep engagement when learning new topics.
In small group, children followed a recipe to make slime. Then children mixed glue with a color of their choosing and added liquid starch. They begin to mix the ingredients until the, “glue changed to slime.” The reactions to this experiment were priceless. They then used their fingers and hands to kneed the slime. This as such a fun activity! Children also sorted numbers and letters. They discovered magnets as they matched lowercase letters using tools that attracted the magnets and objects which did not. In the end of the week, we created bird feeders. This was such an engaging activity and the children did not want to stop creating.
For our work period, children used their scientific inquiry skills to observe gems, plants and various nature items. They used magnifying glasses, microscopes, tongs and eye droppers to explore cause and effect as well as variations in length, width and weight.
The books we read this week: Big Smelly Bear, If You Give A Mouse a Brownie, Katya’s Busy Morning, This is my Home, This is my School and Finding Spring. Favorites were, This is my Home, This is my School, and the illustrations were wonderful.
Music: Sang nursery rhymes, danced with scarves and played with the jingle bells.
Literacy: Kookaburra book, reviewed Little Miss Muffet, Rhymes around the world, read Little Blue Truck and played, “I Spy.”
Spanish: Reviewed colors, counting and objects in a house. We started learning things we see or use at school.
P.E: Today we danced to songs and freeze dance letters.
