October 14

Dear Forest Families,

This week in Forest we focused on a “families” theme through play. Children have been practicing as different roles of a family and using that role to engage in dramatic play with each other. Each center is a different room of the house where children have options of what happens in that room. Every morning during play planning children have been choosing a role, a center, and a basic plan of what scenario they will act out. We have also explored many types of families through our read-aloud books this week. Next week we will wrap up our unit on families and start to transition into a new theme!

Forest children have been practicing their literacy skills through Buddy Reading and Graphics Practice this week as well. In Buddy Reading children picked books that they read with a partner. Through this activity, children practiced their listening and speaking skills as they read using the pictures as a guide. In Graphics Practice children worked on self-regulation and beginner writing skills as they drew to music.

Forest children worked on math and science skills through games and puzzles this week. In a small group activity called Remember and Replicate, children worked on their memory and spatial awareness skills using play-doh. They also had opportunities to explore large puzzles and building. As part of the science center, children have been examining leaves of various colors. Many children have been collecting leaves outside as well!

Please make sure that your child has a warm jacket and hat as the weather cools down!

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Amanda, Ms. Kristine, Ms. Jess, Ms. Carolyn, & Ms. Freya
