October 7

Dear Forest Families,

This week in Forest we continued our play theme of “families”. Children pretended to be different roles each day this week, such as the mom, dad, brother, sister, baby, grandma, grandpa, or even neighbor. Children acted out many situations in the role and center that they chose. We had parents cooking in the kitchen, neighbors working together in the garage, big sisters taking care of baby dolls in the bathroom, big brothers reading their siblings to sleep in the bedroom, and families spending time together in the living room and laundry room. Children have been practicing how to evolve play once one situation is done, and how to keep their play going in the role they have chosen.

We also continued with our play planning this week. Children have been working on planning out what they want to play before creating their “message” to draw and write. Children get to first draw their plan before working on beginner writing stages to write their message with a teacher. This is something we will work on throughout the year, and each week children’s play plans from the week will come home in parent files.

This week we also looked further at the changing season. We read many books about Fall and what changes we may see outside on the playground or at home. Children had the opportunity to collect different leaves outside and bring them in to make leaf rubbings. We have examined the colors of fallen leaves in our science center as well.

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Amanda, Ms. Kristine, Ms. Jess, Ms. Carolyn, & Ms. Freya
